MapMe

MapMe :

AfroVisioN Group (AVN) collaborated with Community Assistance In Development (COMAID) to bring MapMe to life—an innovative field data collection and monitoring application tailored for Civil Society Organizations working on land rights and environmental protection.

The core idea behind MapMe was to create a tool that allows CSOs to easily document field activities, raise real-time alerts, and generate structured reports—all while maintaining location accuracy and data clarity. From defending vulnerable communities to tracking environmental degradation, the app empowers COMAID to respond swiftly and efficiently.

To develop MapMe, AVN used a blend of robust tools and frameworks including Flutter, Firebase, MySQL, and Google Maps API, ensuring smooth cross-platform functionality and reliable real-time tracking. The mobile app is available on both Android and iOS, offering a seamless user experience regardless of device.

Alerts in the app are categorized for clarity—Land Grabbing, Environmental Destruction, and Land & Environmental Defenders—with subcategories and structured forms that guide field officers in accurate and consistent data entry. Reports follow a similar format, making analysis and advocacy work more streamlined.

The collaboration between AVN and COMAID was marked by regular feedback loops, field simulations, and iterative improvements. This allowed the solution to be deeply tailored to the real-world challenges faced by COMAID's teams in the field.

After several months of design, development, and testing, MapMe officially launched and is now fully operational—supporting COMAID’s mission to protect land rights and fight against environmental injustices.
